PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

  1. Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.

B. If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of
unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

C. Check opening height before ordering columns.

3.2 PREPARATION

A. Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation with alcohol or ammonia based cleaning
solution.

  1. Do not use paint thinner, turpentine, or mineral spirits to prepare surface because of the residue that will remain. This residue will prevent proper paint adhesion.

  1. Do not use MEK, lacquer thinner, acetone, or any other MEK based solvent to prepare surface. MEK based products will cause PVC to dissolve.
  1. Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

  1. If attaching handrails or corner iron to column, install solid pressure treated wooden blocking between the inside face of the column and the structural post to receive handrail mounting screws.

3.3 INSTALLATION

  1. Install in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.

B. Plumb and level column shaft. If column cannot be centered around structural post, modify internal squaring/mounting blocks with jig saw to allow column location as needed. If modification of furnished internal squaring/mounting blocks still does not permit desired positioning, installer may field fabricate blocking out of pressure treated lumber.

3.4 PROTECTION

  1. Protect installed products until completion of project.

B. Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
